30 Day Song Challenge: Day 13

Day 13 – One of Your Favorite ’70s Songs

Piano Man by Billy Joel

Year Released: 1973

Most of my favorite classic songs are my mom’s favorite because it’s what I heard growing up. But this song is extra special to me because I discovered and learned to love this song entirely on my own.

It’s nine o’clock on a Saturday
The regular crowd shuffles in
There’s an old man sitting next to me
Making love to his tonic and gin

He says, “Son can you play me a memory
I’m not really sure how it goes
But it’s sad and it’s sweet
And I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man’s clothes.”

Sing us a song you’re the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well we’re all in the mood for a melody
And you’ve got us feeling alright
