Day 10 – A Song that Makes You Sad

Year Released: 2006

For years and years, I couldn’t figure out why I’d feel so sad every time I hear Chasing Cars. I studied the lyrics and concluded that no, it isn’t a sad song. So why do I go into this temporary feeling of misery every time?

Just late last year, I decided to watch Grey’s Anatomy again from Season 1. And there I found my answer. Chasing Cars was the background song in one of the saddest moments of the show, the scene when Izzie finds Denny dead after he just proposed. Chances are I didn’t even know the song when I first watched that episode. My subconscious just registered it and associated it with an overwhelming sadness given that I cried more than what’s acceptable while watching that scene.
